How Paperfold handles your data (spoiler: we don't)

Last updated: January 2026

Paperfold is designed for zero-knowledge privacy.

1. Data Collection

1.1 Zero Knowledge Architecture

Paperfold functions as a client-side interface ("Client") for the Telegram API. When you use Paperfold:

  • We do not see your files. Files are uploaded directly from your device to Telegram's servers.
  • We do not see your messages. Your chat history is retrieved directly from Telegram by the application running on your device.
  • We do not store your credentials. Your session keys and authentication tokens are stored locally on your device and are never transmitted to our servers.

1.2 Telegram as Storage Provider

Paperfold utilizes your personal Telegram "Saved Messages" chat as cloud storage. Consequently, all data you manage through Paperfold is governed by Telegram's Privacy Policy.

2. Data Security

2.1 Local Encryption

Any sensitive data stored by the application (like session tokens) is stored locally on your device. We recommend using a secure device.

3. Third-Party Services

3.1 GitHub

Our website and releases are hosted on GitHub. GitHub may collect standard usage logs as per their Privacy Statement.
